CAPE TANGO ENSEMBLE
Based in Cape Town
The Cape Town Tango Ensemble specializes in Argentinean Tango ranging from the old fashioned Classical Tango style from the first half of 20th century up to the Tango “Nuevo”, started and developed by the famous Argentinean composer and Bandoneon virtuoso Astor Piazzolla. Their latest ideas explore the mixing between African Rhythms and sounds with the “Tango Nuevo” style. Hence is the name of their album “Tango in Africa ”.
The Ensemble was started by Stanislav Anguelov in 1996 as an Accordion & Piano Duo with intention to perform this music at concerts. During the year 2000 the Double Bass was added and since 2001 the Violin became as important as all other instruments to shape the perfect combination for Tango. Their latest addition was an African drum, which demonstrates once again the African roots of the Tango.
