SOUND IMAGE BAND

Based in Cape Town

The Sound Image band is one of Cape Town's most popular function bands. Headed by guitarist Gary Deacon, the five-piece consists of keyboard, Sax / Clarinet / Penny Whistle, Guitar / Bass Guitar, Drums and Vocals, and could be joined by an additional front vocalist to form a six-piece.  Gary works with Cape Town's finest: Andrew Ford from VJR (on keyboard), vocalists Jeff Weiner (ex Jonny Cooper Big Band) and Denay Willie (exceptional female vocalist who has performed in many overseas countries including Japan), Willie van Zyl on saxes, clarinet, and penny whistle, and Kevin Gibson on drums/vocals.

The band has an extensive repertoire to suite all musical tastes, including practically all styles of sophisticated music - Swing, Dixieland, Latino, Traditional, Rock & Roll and Contemporary Popular Songs from the 60 ’s to the present. (See repertoire below.) Whilst the group can provide quiet sophisticated background music during dinner, they are also able to change to dance format when required. Swing and Sinatra styles have become another speciality of this highly regarded band, due to the growing demand for these styles in Cape Town.

REPERTOIRE:
The band's comprehensive playlist consists of over 300 titles, and can broadly be categorised under the following styles:
1) Jazz and Standard Adult Contemporary Vocals - ie. Michael Buble / Robbie Williams / Frank Sinatra / Diana Krall / etc.
2) Instrumental (All styles) ie Glenn Miller / Smooth Jazz / South African / Classic HIts / Ballads / Movie Themes, etc.
3) Classic Hits and Memories to the Present - ie. Shania Twain / Freddie Mercury / Tina Turner / Eric Clapton / Cher , etc.

* 1) and 2) are suitable mainly for background during dining - ie the initial part of the evening
* 3) would be suitable mainly for dancing - ie the second half of the evening

The band would probably be able to cover around 50/60 titles at the most during an average four hour function. They normaly try to adapt the repertoire to suit the average age profile of the guests - the ultimate aim is to keep everyone happy from age 7 to 77 !
