Anthony John Costandius, an established Counselling Psychologist in Durbanville, South Africa, has always lived in two worlds, namely, the mysteries of the psyche and marvel of music. He is classically trained, but, after leaving school, branched out into varied areas, such as choral music, cabaret, pop, jazz, orchestral composition / arranging and song writing. Some of his songs have been described as "hauntingly beautiful".

Anthony was born in Paarl, Western Province, South Africa. His father, Philip, is a self-taught pianist who plays light jazz by ear. He completed a Bachelors, Honours and Masters degree in Counselling Psychology as well as a Teaching Diploma. During the seven years spent at the University of Stellenbosch, he sang in the well-known Stellenbosch Central Church Choir, and was the musical director / co-song writer for three Afrikaans cabarets. Two of these, "Onder Ekstreme Provokasie" and "Ekskuus vir die Wals" were written by the now famous Afrikaans writer, Etienne van Heerden. The third of these, 3-D, was written by Anthony and enjoyed a number of successful runs at various venues. While at varsity, Anthony also conducted five song festival choirs and worked as pianist ain the dining room of the well known Lanzerac Hotel..

Since starting his career as a psychologist, Anthony has been involved with a number of musical projects. He conducted the Cape Youth Choir (1989 - 1994) and the Doxa Deo Chior (1999 - 2000) and in 2005, after completing his Doctorate in Psychology, again co-wrote and produced a Afrikaans Cabaret, "Koos innie Doos". Since 2000 he has been the keyboard player in a rock band, Bone Idol and, recently, also joined the Bob Mowday Big band as a pianist.

Jan, Anthony’s son, is a very talented musician.  He was a member of the Internationally recognised Tygerberg Childrens’ Choir and currently sings in the widely acclaimed Pro Cantu Youth Choir, a two times  Olympic Gold Medal winner .  He has completed his Grade 7 exams in Tenor Sax, is currently engaged in completing his UNISA Grade 6 Music Theory course and is now a pupil of Bob Mowday, father of the well-known Shannon Mowday.  Jan also plays in Bone Idol and Bob Mowday’s Big Band.
