The ceremony and pre-drinks
For your ceremony we recommend booking a Classical ensemble (see our recommendations on the left panel of this page). Not only do they set the perfect atmosphere for the service from the time when the guests start to arrive and provide any wedding march or processional piece for the arrival of the bride; they can also accompany hymns, the exchange of rings, and the signing of the register; and they are able to provide light background music after the service while the photographs are being taken and the guests are enjoying cocktails.
Typically, booking time for a group to accompany the ceremony and pre-drinks would be 2 - 3 hours. We offer a range of options to suit your requirements and budget, and if you are unsure about which group would best fulfill your needs, we are happy to assist you in making your choice!
Pre-dinner drinks
If you feel like going for something different during the time after the ceremony, why not consider a Jazz duo or trio for smooth, laid back Jazz sounds, or if you would like to go with something more ethnic, you can look at using a small marimba band.
THE RECEPTION
The music played during the reception will go a long way in creating the mood of the evening. A live band can really make the difference, but you need to make sure that you choose the right band for your reception. Factors to take into consideration are:
* Do you want dance music (or at least the option for guests to dance), or purely good live background music)? IF it is dance music you're after, you would need a band consisting of at least 4, but preferably 5 or 6 members; preferably with a vocalist.
* Are you looking for a specialised style such as Jazz, Latin, Afro or World, or do you want music that everyone would recognise (i.e. cover band)?
* Most live bands charge an all-inclusive fee for an engagement of up to 4 hours. Will this cover the evening, or would you need to get a DJ as well, or pay the band extra for overtime?
Hiring a live band could be costly, so it is important to find the band that is right for you. We will happily assist you in finding the perfect group for your reception, based on your budget and taste!
